At Pursuit Physiotherapy, clinic owner and physiotherapist Dana Tostenson embraces the idea that recovery and health are ongoing processes. Whether healing from an injury or tackling broader environmental challenges, there is always room to grow. This mindset drives the clinic’s commitment to improving not only patient outcomes but also minimizing its environmental impact.
At Pursuit, they stand by the motto, “What gets measured gets managed.” This philosophy is central to the clinic’s operations, both in patient care and environmental responsibility. Just as they track and measure patient progress, they also monitor their energy consumption and waste production.
Eco-Friendly Practices at Pursuit Physiotherapy
Despite being a relatively young business, the team is committed to finding new ways to reduce the clinic’s environmental footprint. Those efforts earned them a Green and Ocean Friendly Business certification in their first year. Pursuit’s efforts include recycling all soft and hard plastics (including IMS needle wrappers and foil packaging), composting food waste, using reusable glasses, kitchenware, towels, and eco-friendly cleaning supplies, operating from a LEED Gold-certified building, and donating a portion of the clinic’s revenue to environmental initiatives. In the physiotherapy industry, dry needling is a major source of waste. Being particularly mindful of medical waste, Pursuit has partnered with TerraCycle to ensure all medical waste, including gloves, is properly recycled.
As the clinic continues to grow, Dana and the team seek new ways to integrate sustainability into their culture and services to the community. Their commitment to ongoing improvements mirrors their approach to rehabilitation – small steps that lead to significant change.
